Vivian L. Rieke, 82, of Le Mars, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Vivian Lorraine Frederick was born Aug. 21, 1924, at Spaulding, Neb., the daughter of Albert and Mabel (Warner) Frederick. Vivian graduated as valedictorian with the Class of 1941 from Burwell High School at Burwell, Neb. Following high school, Vivian lived in Fremont, Neb., and later moved to Sioux City. She had worked for an attorney and later worked several years at Woolridge Insurance in Sioux City.

Vivian was united in marriage to Charles D. Rieke on Dec. 10, 1950, at the First Methodist Church in Sioux City. In February 1951, Vivian and Charles moved to a farm in Reading Township where they continued to farm until retirement in 1982 when they moved to Le Mars.

Vivian was a long-time member of the Seney United Methodist Church.

Family was always very important to Vivian. She loved to cook and bake for family gatherings to celebrate holidays and birthdays.

She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Machele and Kirk Gibson and their son Brent, Kathy and Mike Detloff and their children, Melissa and her fiancé J.D. Seger and Matthew, and Lisa and Mike Eisma and their children Justin, Jordan, and Jessica, all of Le Mars; a brother, Wesley Frederick of Fremont, Neb.; a sister, Mary Ann Thew of Lincoln, Neb.; Virginia Warner of Weatherby Lake, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mabel (Warner) Frederick; her husband, Charles D. Rieke on Aug. 29, 2006; and a sister, Alberta Hartung.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Seney United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5 p.m. to greet friends, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Brent Alberts, Matthew Detloff, J.D. Seger, Justin Eisma, Jordan Eisma, and Jim Hartung.
