AKRON, Iowa -- Joni Kae Fodness, 43, of Akron died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Akron Care Center, where she was a resident for the past one and one half years.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Joni was born Oct. 7, 1959, in Canton, S.D., the daughter of Marlo and Clarice (Johnson) Fodness. She graduated from Akron High School in 1978. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron and baptized at Canton Lutheran Church in Canton, S.D.

She was employed as a nurses aid at various health care providers. She was also employed at Life Skills, Plymouth Life and Teikyo Westmar University in the cafeteria.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Akron Care Center's Bell Ringers, and the care center's wheelchair square dancing "Dancing Wheels." In her free time, she collected bells, loved cats, putting puzzles together and most of all spending time with her two nephews, Nicholas and Andrew Fodness, with all the joy they gave her.

Survivors include her mother, Clarice Fodness Miller; a brother and his wife, Major Troy and Diane Fodness of Fort Campbell, Ky.; two stepsisters, Nancy Ruhland and her special friend, David Sheveland of Akron, Iowa, and Lori Heeren and her husband, Greg, of Akron, S.D.; her grandmother, Martha Fodness; two nephews, Nicholas and Andrew Fodness, both of Fort Campbell, Ky.; and many aunts, uncles and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marlo Fodness; stepfather, Cliff Miller; paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents.
