LE MARS, Iowa -- Marjorie J. Flynn, 84, of Le Mars died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls, Minn. Burial will be in Granite Falls. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Robert J. Waters of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill officiating, at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Marjorie Rush was born April 12, 1918, in Elk Point, Union County, S.D., to John and Jessie (Barrington) Rush. Her family resided in Elk Point and Sioux City before moving to Merrill, when Marjorie was 3 years old. She attended school in Merrill and graduated from Merrill High School in 1935.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Cecil Flynn on June 30, 1937. Marjorie and Cecil resided in Merrill and Sioux City until 1943. The couple made their home in St. Cloud, Minn., from 1943 to 1953; in Doon, Iowa, from 1953 to 1963; and Marshall, Minn., from 1963 until 1968, when Marjorie brought her family back to Merrill after Cecil's death in October 1967.
Throughout her many moves she cared for her home and family, made friends in each community and involved herself with school activities, church and civic duties. She lived in Merrill where she was well-known and loved until her failing health in 1999 caused her to move to Floyd Valley Apartments in Le Mars and then finally to Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in February 2000.
Survivors include seven children, Bill and Betty Flynn of Lompoc, Calif., Terry and Carol Flynn of Ucansville, Conn., Ron and Carol Flynn of Mesa, Ariz., Pat and Ron Anderson of Hanley, Minn., Dan Flynn and Victoria Runkle of Renton, Wash., and Colleen and Ron Prokop and Colin Flynn, all of Marion; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Joe Delutri of Merrill.
In addition to her husband, Cecil, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David in infancy; a brother, Phillip Rush; and a sister, Fray Reinholdt.
