LE MARS, Iowa -- Rieka C. Johnson, 90, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Rieka Catherine Lauchstadt was born Nov. 22, 1912, the daughter of Fredrich Emil and Trienka M. (Dirks) Lauchstadt. She was born and raised on the family farm northwest of Le Mars. Rieka and her sister, Annie, attended country school one mile south of their farm.

On Dec. 13, 1935, she and Theodore Martin Johnson were united in marriage on the same farm where she was raised. The couple were blessed with three children.

Rieka and Ted spent their life farming in Minnesota and Iowa. During their retirement years, they wintered in Weslaco, Texas. Ted passed away in Weslaco on March 19, 1985. She moved to Brentwood Good Samaritan Center on Oct. 13, 1999.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, reading and crafts.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Ronald L. Johnson of Marshalltown, Iowa, and David R. Johnson of Alcester, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Mavis M. and Rick Thomas of Auburn, Neb.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; a granddaughter, Natalie Barton; and a sister and her husband, Annie and Henry Reelfs.
