KATHERINE ASSELN

Mrs. Dick (Katherine) Asseln, 90, LeMars, Plymouth county native and lifelong resident, died Tuesday (March 26, 1985) at Plymouth Manor Care Center after a lengthy illness. She lived at the care center for the 1 ½ years.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Craig, with Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

The former Katherine Ommen was born Dec. 21, 1894, Grant Township, rural LeMars, to Henry W. and Ankea Rolapp Ommen. She married Dietrick (Dick) Assein Dec. 20, 1916, in Grant Township. The coupled farmed in Nebraska from 1925 to 1937. They retired to LeMars in 1949. Mr. Assein died in December 1979.

Mrs. Asseln was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and ALCW.

Survivors are three daughters: Mrs. Lorene Harms and Mrs. Kenneth (Kathleen) Cronin, both of LeMars; and Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Ludwig, Milford; a son, Elmer Asseln, Craig; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Lubben, Anna Oltmanns and Lena Foxen, all of Le Mars. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Marvin, in June 1977, two sisters and four brothers.
