AKRON, Iowa ---Russell LeRoy Anderson, 78, of Akron died Monday, Jan. 15, 1996, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden following a long illness.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with military graveside rites by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron.
Mr. Anderson was born April 29, 1917, in Plymouth County, the son of Ernest and Anna (Johnson) Anderson. He graduated from Akron High School in 1935. He married Martha Mae Appley June 18, 1939, in Jackson, Minn. He was a lifelong Akron area resident and had operated a filling station for seven years. He also worked in an aircraft factory, farmed for many years and sold seed corn until his retirement in 1977.
Mr. Anderson served as a council member, youth counselor and had sponsored a bowling team for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion of Akron.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Dr. Gary Anderson and Pam of Bethany, Mo., and Dr. Dale Anderson and Pat of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Henry and Dorothy of Sioux City, Milton and Mary and Stanley and Janet, all of Akron; a sister, Laverne Dowling of Akron and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Bradley and Morey Anderson, Harold Dowling, Curt Appley, and Eldon and Jim Heeren.
