AKRON, Iowa -- Pearl R. Brown, 85, of Akron died Monday, April 26, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Ernest M. Caltvedt officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Pearl R. Brown was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Lanners) Nitzchke. She graduated from Remsen High School.

She married Andrew Brown on Dec. 22, 1942, in Remsen. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the L.C.W. She also was a member of the T.O.P.S. Club. In her free time, she loved to bake, read, embroider and work in her flower and vegetable gardens. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, which were her pride and joy of her life.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Alen and Laurene of Akron; a daughter, Paulette Fletcher of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, LeIla and Lowry Smith of Arizona; five grandchildren, Kim and her husband, Scott Soule of Sioux City, Stephanie and her husband, Tod Strudthoff of Ames, Iowa, Jamie Brown and her special friend, Matt of Sioux City, Tom Brown and his special friend, Sue Fullmer of Illinois, and Bradley Brown and his wife, Sabrina of Alcester, S.D.; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Lester and Paul Nitzchke; a sister, Fern Klemme; a grandson, Tim Brown; and a son-in-law, Roger Fletcher.

Pallbearers will be Scott Soule, Bradley Brown, Tom Brown, Matt Winkler, Tod Strudthoff and Don Bertram.
