LE MARS, Iowa -- Ethel Faye Lorenzen, 100, of Le Mars passed away Friday, April 11, 2003, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Ethel Faye Shelton was born on Oct. 26, 1902, in Chariton, Iowa, the daughter of Grant and Eva (Wick) Shelton. In 1904 the family moved to Afton, Iowa, where Ethel received her education. They moved to Le Mars in 1918.

On Sept. 28, 1920, Ethel and Carl Lorenzen were united in marriage in Orange City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Ethel worked at Merkel Paint, Marie's Dress Shop and Tots & Teens Clothing. She was selected as the Chamber of Commerce's "Employee of the Month" in June 1976.

She was an active member of United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She sang in the choir for many of those years. Ethel was also active in the PTA and sang in its chorus. She was a charter member of the Mother's Federated Study Club as well as an original member of the Sweet Adeline's.

Ethel will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jim and his wife, Marge of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lorenzen of Le Mars; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a son, Carl Webster; and a sister, Ferne Montgomery.
