AKRON, S.D. -- Orville LuVerne Lorensen, 70, of Akron died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa.

Orville Lorensen was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Ted and Henrietta (Peters) Lorensen. He was a lifetime resident of the Akron area. He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 19, 1949.

He married Elaine Callahan on March 18, 1950, in Dallas, Ga. He served in the military for three years, stationed for one and one half years in Japan. He farmed in the Akron area. He also worked for the city of Akron and Higman Sand and Gravel for many years. Later, he owned and operated Lorensen Refuse and served the cities of Akron, Craig and Westfield, Iowa, for 20 years.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron for 26 years and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 915 of Elk Point, S.D. During his free time, he enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He loved the quiet and peacefulness of his farm. He enjoyed working outside, woodworking and collecting Minneapolis-Moline tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Lorensen of Akron, S.D.; three sons, Rickey Lorensen and his fiancee, Christine Daigle, of Akron, Iowa, Gary Lorensen and his wife, Tina, of Westfield, Iowa, and Jeffrey Lorensen and his wife, Julie, of Brookings, S.D.; a sister, Lucille Young of Washington, Ill.; a brother, Les Lorensen of Akron, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Nick, Chad and Adam Lorensen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Charles.
