LOFTIS, KRAUSE, COULTER, BARNES

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Opal L. Loftis-Krause, 82, of South Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Hope Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Burial will be in Coleridge Cemetery, Coleridge, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Opal was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Humboldt, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Katherine E. (Barnes) Coulter. She grew up in Cedar County, Neb., and graduated from Laurel (Neb.) High School.

She married Merle R. Loftis on March 9, 1939, in Sioux City. The couple moved to Siouxland in 1960. She was employed with Younkers for more than 25 years. Merle died Sept. 9, 1981, in Sioux City. She married Richard H. Krause on Feb. 8, 1992, in Hinton, Iowa. He died Nov. 8, 1999, in Hinton.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and the Single Seniors Group. She also was a member of Skirts and Flirts Square Dancing Club and the Exotic Animal and Bird Auction in Sioux Center, Iowa. She enjoyed dancing at the Eagles, participating in activities at the South Sioux City Senior Citizens and her flower garden.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Merle Jr. and Mary of Le Mars, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, LaVonne and Kenneth McDonald of Jackson, Neb., and Cheryl and Ronald Tague of Murphy, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Connie and her husband, Jim Wahlstrom, and Sandra Muecke, all of Hinton; a sister, Dorothy Pratt of Davenport, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Alfred, Harold, Lloyd and Donald Coulter; a sister, Alice Marie Kirk; and a great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Randy, Todd and Kennie McDonald, Shannon and Ron Tague and Jeff and Rick White.
