REMSEN, Iowa -- Kenneth G. Bentz, 85, of Remsen died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 220 and V.F.W. Post 3328. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Kenneth was born Feb. 22, 1917 in Remsen, the son of Nick and Johanna (Milfs) Bentz. He was raised in Remsen and received his education at Remsen Public School. He was then employed at Kramer's Market in Remsen. Kenneth entered the U.S. Army on May 28, 1942, and served during World War II in the 592nd Medical Detachment in Austria and the Philippines. He was discharged Nov. 7, 1945.
On his return to Remsen, he was employed as a bookkeeper for Kramer's Market, Schaaf's Hardware, Bob's Grocery Store in the bakery department and then for the flower shop in Remsen, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of American Legion Post 220 and V.F.W. Post 3328, both of Remsen.
Survivors include a brother, Darrell of Orange City, Iowa; three nephews; a niece; and a special friend, Kyle Sudtelgte of Remsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill and Roy.
