Helen B. Remer, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at a Sioux City care center following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trimble United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carol James officiating. Burial will be in Le Mars City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Ms. Remer was born April 30, 1918, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Benjaman F. and Lena (Bachman) Remer. She attended Le Mars schools, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1936. She also attended Westmar College in 1945 for two years, and the University of Nebraska in Omaha, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in 1954.

She was an elementary school teacher at Prairie Queen School in rural Hancock County and Stanton School No. 4 in Plymouth County, Iowa, from 1938-1941; Muecke School east of Hinton from 1941-1942; Rural Wild Cat School west of Le Mars and Peterson School until 1943; and West Le Mars School for one year. She also taught seventh and eighth grades at Mallard, Iowa, from 1944-1946; and sixth to eighth grades at Council Bluffs from 1946-1955. She moved to Sioux City where she taught at North Junior School from 1955-1957; Bryant School from 1957-1963; Riverside High School from 1963-1969; North Junior High School from 1969-1980; and Woodrow Wilson from 1980 until her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of Trimble United Method Church, where she was a member of the Women's Circle. She was also a member of Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include a nephew, Gerald T. Remer and his wife, Mary and their children, Becky, Michael and Tiffany, all of Kentucky; a cousin, Mary Deibler, and a second cousin, Beth Kavanaugh and her husband, Dan and their son, Tom, all of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald D. and Gerald Remer.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Tremble United Methodist Church.
