REMSEN, Iowa -- Ronald Amundson, 69, of rural Remsen died of cancer Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Tim Olsen officiating. Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday in Remsen Cemetery, with a 15 minute visitation prior to the interment. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Ronald Ray Amundson was born Dec. 6, 1931, on the family farm near Remsen, the son of Ted and Martha (Sanny) Amundson. He attended country school near Remsen and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1949. He assisted his parents with farming prior to his service with the U.S. Army. Ronald served overseas in Korea.
On Oct. 3, 1953, Ronald and Yvonne Crary were united in marriage near Larrabee, Iowa. Following his discharge from the Army, the couple began farming.
He was a member of Presbyterian United Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and deacon. He served on the Presbyterian Church Camp Council and for 11 years, and was co-director of the Junior Nature Camp at Lake Okoboji, Iowa.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Yvonne of rural Remsen; a daughter, Beth Anderson of Larrabee, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Bruce and Donna of Larrabee, and Brian and Janet of Eau Claire, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Christy Alquist and her husband, Derrick, Colleen and Carl Amunson, Gene and Becky Anderson, Heather and Eric Amundson; and a sister and her husband, Ardith and Q.W. "Bill" Whittle of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, LaDona Fleming.
