Harold Albert

LE MARS, Iowa -- Harold Albert, 75, of Le Mars died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Seney United Methodist Church in Seney, Iowa. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the family present after 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Harold Ernest Albert was born May 17, 1929, on the family farm in Elgin Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Clarence E. and M. Grace (Nanninga) Albert. He attended country school at Elgin Township No. 4 school and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1946. Following high school Harold farmed with his father on the family farm.

He married M. Janice Becker on Oct. 9, 1953, at Melbourne E.U.B. Church.

He served his country in the United States Army from Oct. 20, 1953 to Oct. 19, 1955. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to the family farm. Harold and Janice continued to farm in Elgin Township with their son, Dan.

He deeply loved his church. He was involved as a Sunday School teacher, served on the Church Council and assisted with Bible School. He was involved with FFA where he was awarded the Iowa Farmer Degree. He served on the Board of Directors of Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. and Plymouth County Farm Bureau for several years. He was also a 50-year Masonic member of the Floyd Lodge, was as an Elgin Township Trustee for many years and volunteered at the Plymouth County Fair. In 2000, Harold was recognized by the Plymouth County Farm Bureau for his "Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture."

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, M. Janice Albert; two daughters, Gayle Vonk and her husband Dennis and their children Allison and her husband Jay Rolfes and Ashley Vonk, and Lorraine DeJong and her husband Joel and their children Kaitlin and Mackenzie; a son, Dan Albert and his wife Julie and their children Joseph, Matthew and Michael, all of Le Mars; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Janice E. Albert of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, Herman Schulz of Le Mars; a step-sister, Ferne and her husband Chuck Obye of Sun City, Ariz.; a step-brother, Don Dunn of Peoria, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, R. Gene and his wife Grace Becker of Hinton; a sister-in-law, Rae L. and her husband James Nanninga of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; an aunt, Maggie Mae Coppock of Mesa, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Schulz.

Pallbearers will be Steve Albert, Scott Albert, Doug Becker, John Nanninga, Paul Nanninga and Albert Schulz.
