Marvin E. Ahrens

Marvin E. Ahrens, 61, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of the Inwood and Hawarden, Iowa, area, died suddenly Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at a Cincinnati hospital of an apparent stroke.

Services were held Monday at Nurre-Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home in Cincinnati. Burial was in Bridgetown Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force.

Marvin E. Ahrens was born Feb. 2, 1944, near Westfield, Iowa, the son of George and Helen (Wynia) Ahrens. He received his elementary education at a Big Springs, S.D., country school. He graduated from West Sioux High School in Hawarden in 1963.

He served four years in the U.S. Air Force in Hawaii and Thailand.

He married Shirley VandeKeift at Inwood. He later married Patty Lee.

He was employed for several years at Otis Electric in Hawarden. He later worked at Acme Electric in Rochester, N.Y. In 1981, he helped establish Current Controls Inc. in Wellsville, N.Y. He sold his share in 1986 and moved to Cincinnati, where he owned and operated Fern Electric.

Survivors include his wife, Patty; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Louis Koon; a grandson, Randy; a granddaughter, Stacy, all of Cincinnati; a brother, Robert Ahrens and his special friend, Jeanette On The Tree, of Belle Fourche, S.D.; and three sisters, Betty Pedersen and her husband, Ronald, of Le Mars, Iowa, Donna Schoellerman and her husband, Gordon, of Alcester, S.D., and Linda Rosenbaum and her special friend, David Geary, of Elk Point, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were his grandson, Randy, and members of his Marine unit at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
