LE MARS, Iowa -- Marlowe Ahrendt, 63, of Le Mars died suddenly Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at his residence.

A Celebration of Life service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present after 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Marlowe Charles Ahrendt was born Sept. 22, 1940, on the family farm in Grant Township to Carl G. and Kathryn (Marienau) Ahrendt. Marlowe was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township. He attended country school in Grant Township and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1958. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in pre-medicine. He then pursued his schooling in San Francisco, Calif., graduating with his doctorate in podiatry.

Marlowe had lived in California, Arizona and Idaho before returning to Le Mars in 1990 to help care for his aging parents. Marlowe had a passion for horticulture and landscaping. He also enjoyed reading and going to movies. Through the years, Marlowe had enjoyed traveling to such places as England, Australia, New Zealand and countless destinations within the U.S. His sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Marlowe gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Lang and her husband, Norman of Le Mars, and Roxanne Ahlrich of Le Mars; five nieces and nephews, Darci Athens, Gina Statema, Erin London, Troy Ahlrich and Cori Ahlrich; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Kathryn Ahrendt.
