LeMars, Iowa—Emory A. Collins, 77, of LeMars, former state champion automobile racer, died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, LeMars. The Rev. Robert Hanthorn will officiate. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery.
A prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Mauer Funeral Home, LeMars.
Mr. Collins was born on Nov. 18, 1904, in Sibley. He came to LeMars in the early 1930s and lived there ever since. He married Irene S. Short April 15, 1934, in Hudson, Wis.
He was a well-known Northwest Iowa dirt track racer, traveling the fair circuit and racing in the 1930s. He was a state champion dirt track car driver during that time.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Janet McMoviel, of Matthews, N.C., and two grandchildren.
