LE MARS, Iowa -- Stanley W. King, 94, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at The Abbey in Le Mars.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Mike Janes officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Stanley Warren King was born Jan. 24, 1912, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to Warren and Birdean (Poyzer) King. He was baptized at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Adaville, Iowa. He graduated from Liberty Consolidated High School in 1929.

He was united in marriage to Hazel Pecks on Jan. 1, 1939, in Union County, S.D. The couple farmed near Slayton, Minn., until Dec. 7, 1941, when they returned to the family farm in Johnson and Liberty Townships. They continued to farm until 1961, when they moved to Le Mars. He worked for Hauff Hardware in Merrill, Iowa, for a couple of years before beginning his career with Westmar College in Le Mars in maintenance. He worked for the college of 12 years, then in 1976 began working as the church sexton at Calvary United Methodist Church. He retired from the church in 1982. Hazel passed away on Jan. 4, 1989.

He later married Lois Winchester on May 22, 1990, at Calvary United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Le Mars.

He sang in the church choir at Adaville and Le Mars for more than 80 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Le Mars; two sons and their wives, Leslie "Les and Mary King of Sioux City and Terry and Carol King of Maryville, Mo.; six grandchildren and spouses, Kathy and Al Rosauer of Sioux City and their children, Austin and Hunter, Karla and Doug Ruby of Sioux City and their children, Kerri, Joshua and Jessica, Jon and Cindy King of Sioux City and their daughter, Hannah, Kevin and Kimbe King of Nixa, Mo. and their children, Kayleigh and Kannon, Shawn and Andrea King of Nixa, Mo., and Heather King of Manitou Springs, Colo.; a sister, Freda Dreeszen of Akron, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Birdean (Poyzer) King; his wife, Hazel on Jan. 4, 1989; a brother, Elvin in infancy; three sisters, Elva Hawkins, Ione Roggow and Ferne Tindall; and a grandson, Robert King.

Pallbearers will be Les King, Jon King, Kevin King, Shawn King, Al Rosauer and Doug Ruby.
