Wednesday, August 10, 2005Dr. Harry L. Vander Stoep, 95, of Le Mars, longtime physician and surgeon, died Tuesday Aug. 9, 2005, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Harry was born April 14, 1910, in Sioux Center, the eighth of nine children born to Andrew and Alyda (Wesselink) Vander Stoep. He obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of South Dakota and his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He began his medical career in Le Mars in 1938 in offices above the Royal Theater. The Le Mars Clinic later relocated to a new building where he practiced until his retirement.
Harry loved God, his church, his profession, and his family. He was a loving father and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen Vander Stoep of Le Mars; four children, Rachel of Phoenix, Ariz., and Le Mars, Phil of St. Cloud, Minn., Tom of San Diego, Calif., and Mark of Tempe, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family thanks all of Harry's wonderful friends for their cards, flowers, visits, and prayers; his special care-giver, Rose Williams, for her loving and compassionate care; the entire staff of Plymouth Manor, residents and families, and Hospice of Siouxland. All of you are most appreciated.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars, with the Rev. Drew Tomberlin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
