Johnnie Lee Ball. 78 of rural Boone, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center of Ames.

Johnnie was born April 19, 1927, on a farm near Henderson, Minn., the daughter of John Henry and Mary Alice (Hamilton) Klohs. She attended country school in Plymouth and Sioux Counties, and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1946. She then attended college for three years at Broadlawns School of Nursing to become a registered nurse.

Johnnie married Clarence Ewald Ball on June 1, 1946, in Denver, Colo. The couple moved to Arizona and lived there from 1951 to 1968 where she worked at the Williams Air Force Base Hospital and then with Arizona State Hospital. The couple has lived in the Jordan area for the past 18 years. She took her nurses training at the age of 40 in the last class that was offered at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. She then worked with Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines and Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone. Johnnie was very involved with her church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Her hobbies were floral design, quilting, crocheting and oil painting.

Johnnie was an avid reader, and had a life long dream of visiting Egypt. She fulfilled this dream and more with travels to the Holy Lands, Mexican Reviera, and most of the United States. She enjoyed being with her family, friends and cats.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence E. Ball of rural Boone; a son, John Ball and his wife, Lynn of Pilot Mound; two daughters, Suzanne Salter and her husband, Wayne of Huxley and Jill Davis and her husband, Gordon of Boone; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriet Klohs Goslin of Ames; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone with the Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery of Boone.

Visitation will be today (Wednesday) at the Schroeder ~ Walter Funeral Home, Fifth & Story Streets of Boone from 2 to 9 p.m., with the family to receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m Visitation will continue on Thursday morning at the church from 8:30 a.m. to the time of service at 10 a.m.
