Margaret Kennedy of Le Mars, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars at the age of 101.

The former Margaret Estelle Lite was born April 18, 1904 in Le Mars, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Dominic) Lite. Her mother died when Margaret was two years old and then she was raised by her paternal grandparents. She grew up and attended elementary school in Le Mars. In 1923, Margaret graduated from Mt. St. Mary's Academy in Cherokee. She received her teaching degree from Morningside College in Sioux City and then was a rural school teacher in Lincoln Township.

On Jan. 22, 1929, Margaret married Elmer Kennedy. The couple farmed in the Le Mars area until his death on Aug. 1, 1966. Following his death, she moved into Le Mars and in 1979 she moved into Floyd Valley Apartments.

Mrs. Kennedy was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

She enjoyed playing bingo, card games, and an occasional trip to the Winn-A-Vegas casino. Margaret loved family gatherings when she could be with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband Colleen and Orville Kunkel of Remsen; three sons and their wives, Larry and Janet Kennedy, Pat and Marilyn Kennedy, all of Le Mars, and Drs. Al and Ramona Kennedy of Cherokee; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Nina McDonald of Santa Anna, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; her parents; her step-mother; a grandson, Mike Kennedy; and two half-sisters: Izeta Montang and Lorna Timmins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A parish rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
