Darrell R. Easton, 66, of Akron, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Darrell R. Easton was born Jan. 5, 1939, on a farm near Merrill, the son of G. Roger and Elsie M. (Johnson) Easton. Shortly after his birth, he moved with his family to a farm near Westfield. He attended country school near Westfield and later Westfield High School. He joined the Army National Guard as a teenager.

On March 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Glenda Gries at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Together they are the parents of five children: Joel, Jeanine, Rick, Dawn, and Jeremy. The couple made their home on the farm near Westfield until moving to Akron in 1971.

After retiring from farming, he worked various jobs in the Akron area until starting his own business, Easton Enterprises. Following his tenure in the small engine repair and equipment business, he held other jobs until retiring. Most recently, he was the sexton for the Riverside Cemetery in Akron.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. He was the president of the Iowa Genealogical Society and then started the Northwest Iowa Genealogy group, the "Computer Genies." He was a former member of the Akron Fire Department and the Akron Lions Club. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, and pulling and watching tractor pulls. He loved the Green Bay Packers and the NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon. But most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of over 48 years, Glenda of Akron; his five children: Joel Easton and his wife, Darla of Cedar Rapids, Jeanine Easton of Sioux City, Rick Easton and his wife, Merrilee of Westfield, Dawn Coyle and her husband ,Pat of Olathe, Kan., and Jeremy Easton and his wife Judy of Akron; his mother, Elsie Easton of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister: Laila Gray of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, G. Roger Easton; two sisters in infancy; and twin grandsons in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, with graveside military honors conducted by American Legion Albert E. Hoschler Post 18 6 of Akron. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) with the family present from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Casket bearers will be Tyler Easton, Brad Easton, Jordan Easton, Jeff Eberly, Alex Coyle, and Nichole Semmler.

Honorary casket bearers will be Jared Eberly, Nathan Easton, Ben Coyle, Drew Coyle, Matthew Semmler, Abbigail Easton, Quinten Easton, Haylee Easton, and Ashlee Easton.
