Jennie M. Bremer, 100, of Le Mars, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005 at Good Samaritan Village, Brentwood Center in Le Mars.

Jennie M. Bremer was born Jan. 29, 1905, on a farm near Westfield. She was the oldest daughter of Peter and Margarette (Peterson) Mulder. The family moved to Merrill where Jennie attended school.

After her schooling, she did housework and child care for a family in Le Mars. She married Herman F. Bremer in 1923. They owned and operated a livestock and grain farm south of Le Mars. Jennie raised large flocks of chickens and sold eggs and dressed chickens. She also raised large gardens, was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting. Herman died in October 1962.

Jennie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars and was actively involved the women's circles. She especially enjoyed making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

She is survived by her children. Mary Anne Herbst of Merrill, Arnold and Patricia

Bremer, Akron, and Herman and Beverly Bremer of Le Mars; a sister, Catherine

Rosenow of Merrill; 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters Elsie Mulder and Anna Bock; brothers John and Theodore Mulder, her husband Herman; a son-in-law, Odie G Herbst; three brothers-in-law, John Bock, Arlo Herbst, and Charles Rosenow; and a great-granddaughter, Katie Rohmiller.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Mauer -- Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harlan Herbst, Marlin Herbst, Norman Herbst, Melvin Herbst and Rob Rousch. Pallbearers will be Darwin Herbst, Elwin Herbst, Douglas Bremer, Alan Vetter, Hal Schuchard and Russell Schoenherr.
