Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson, 73, LeMars, well known retired Craig businessman, died Thursday (Oct. 16, 1980), at St. Luke's hospital, Sioux City, after an illness of 12 weeks.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 Monday at St. John's Lutheran church, Craig, with Rev. William Gregerson officiating. Burial will be in the Craig Lutheran cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home in LeMars.

A prayer service is scheduled for Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Chris Edward Johnson was born April 4, 1907, in Craig to John H. and Anna Beckman Johnson. He was a lifelong county resident and was retired from operating the only gasoline station in Craig. He also operated a tank wagon service for Plymouth Co-Op out of Craig.

He retired to LeMars in 1976.

Mr. Johnson was a veteran of world war 2 and a member of Wasmer post, American Legion. He was a member of St. John's church at Craig.

His marriage to Hazel Tullis took place Nov. 15, 1932, at Merrill Methodist church.

Survivors are his wife, Hazel, and a daughter, Ruth Ann Johnson, both of LeMars, a brother Harry of Fort Dodge, four sisters Mrs. Marie Plueger and Mrs. Ben (Lizzie) Meerdink, both of Rock Valley, Mrs. Elsie Green, Holstein, and Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Carrillo, Santa Fe, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Harm, Louis, Onno and Otto and a sister, Mrs. Emma Richardson.
