LAST RITES FOR EARLY SETTLER.
George Zimmerman Was Resident of County For Half a Century.

Last rites were held Saturday at Grant township Lutheran church for George Zimmerman, pioneer resident of Plymouth county, who died December 6, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Botsford, near Lake Benton, Minn. Services were conducted by Rev. J. Schempp and interment made in the Grant Lutheran cemetery. He had been ill for three months.

George Zimmerman was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arndt Zimmerman and was born August 7, 1851, in Ostfriesland, Germany. When he was three years old his parents came to America and settled near Nokomis, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. He came from there to Jones county, Iowa, where he worked. He was married while living in Jones county to Johanna Margaretha Gehrts in 1877.

Following their marriage they farmed in Iowa and Illinois for a few years and came to Plymouth county in 1883 where they made their home.

Mr. Zimmerman farmed for a number of years in Preston and Washington townships and in 1926 moved to Brunsville to live. His wife died in 1922. He went to Minnesota last February to make his home with his only daughter, Mrs. Botsford.

Besides his daughter he leaves eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, a brother, Dick Zimmerman of Ireton, and two sisters, Mrs. George Frerichs of Preston township, and Mrs. John Dirks of Mammen.

Mr. Zimmerman had a wide acquaintance in the county, was a successful farmer and enjoyed the esteem of all those who knew him.
