Rites Held Sunday For Esteemed Former Akron Resident
The many old-time friends here of Max O. Pollock of Sioux City, learned with genuine regret of his death Wednesday, March 18, in Chicago, where he had been visiting his son, Col. Gordon Pollock stationed at Fort Sheridan. He attained the age of 74 years, 7 months and 4 days. He had been in failing health the previous few weeks.
Mr. Pollock was born August 14, 1888, near Akron, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pollock (actually Reuben Pollock), and grew to manhood here. He married Miss Pearl Seamands February 13, 1913, and they engaged in farming northeast of town until moving to Akron in 1929 and going into the general trucking business, later a Standard Oil filling station here, Mr. and Mrs. Pollock moved to Sioux City in 1954, where he operated a filling station in North Riverside and continued the business until shortly before his death. Mr. Pollock was preceded in death by his wife on June 17 (16), 1963 in Sioux City.
He was a member of Riverside Methodist church, North Riverside Masonic lodge 662, Silver chapter O. E. S., and the Sioux City Consistory, Mr. Pollock was a past master of Freedom lodge in Akron and a past patron of Vesper chapter, O. E. S.
Survivors include two other sons besides Col. Pollock Vincent of Sioux City; a brother (son) Russell (Randall) of Sioux City, a brother Russell of Riverton, Wyo., a sister, Mrs. Orpha Murphey of Lennox, S. D., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Riverside Methodist church, Sioux City, Rev. Harvey E. Carbaugh officiating. Burial was beside his wife in Akron Riverside cemetery. Members of Riverside Lodge, No. 662, conducted graveside Masonic rites and also acted as casket bearers.
