Death Summons Mrs. J. H. Pollock at Sioux City Wednesday, Feb. 16

Mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. J. H. Pollock, a former resident of Akron vicinity for many years, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis W. Koch, in Sioux City Iowa, Wednesday morning, February 16, 1938, after a lingering illness, aged 77 years, 2 months and 10 days.

Mary Estella Rhea was born December 6, 1860, on a farm near Toronto, Clinton county, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood. In 1874 she pioneered with her parents to Sac county, in a covered wagon. There she was united in marriage with J. H. Pollock on September 27, 1883. They came to Plymouth county soon after their marriage and made their home on a farm in Portland township, northeast of Akron, until 1918, when they retired and moved to Akron, engaging in the restaurant business here for some time.

Mr. Pollock preceded her in death two years ago, and since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Koch.

Mrs. Pollock was a consistent member of the Akron M. E. church and of Vesper chapter, NO. 61, Order of the Eastern Star, of Akron.

She is survived by one son, Areden Pollock of Storm Lake, Iowa, and one daughter, Mrs. L. W. Koch, of Sioux City, Iowa; also by 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, D. A. Rhea of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Hobenden, of Seattle, Wash.

Two sons, Clyde and Rex Pollock preceded her in death.

She was a kind and devoted wife and mother, a helpful and sympathetic friend and neighbor, whose pleasant ways and good deeds will long be remembered by her host of friends.

The funeral was held here Saturday afternoon, at 2 o’clock from the home of her grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dirks and 230 o’clock in the Akron M. E. church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore. Mary and Eunice Burket sang three duets, with piano accompaniment by Mrs. W. J. Brunner.

Grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers. Members of Vesper chapter, O. C. S., attended the funeral in a body ad conducted a ritual service in the church. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives present fro out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Koch and family, of Sioux City; Arden Pollock of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Pollock and Mrs. Cora Pollock, of Omaha, Nebr.; Arch. Rhea, Mrs. Elsie Young, and Mrs. Ruth Lanendresser, of Beresford, S. D.
