Mrs. John Pendleton Dies at Her Home in Akron
Death of Mrs. Pendleton
Mrs. John Pendleton, a resident of Plymouth county for the past 44 years, died at her hlme in Akron, Thursday, of ailments incident to advanced years. She had been in failing health for some years and was taken seriously ill a week prior to her demise.
Mrs. Pendleton, whose maiden name was Sarah Jane Thomas was born in Iowa county, Wisconsin, December 6, 1846, and grew up there and in 1863 her parents moved to Elk Grove, Wis., where she was united in marriage with John Pendleton, November 29, 1865.
Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton came to Plymouth county in 1881, and located on a farm on the West Branch, five miles southwest of Le Mars. A few years later they moved to a farm in Johnson township, and then settled near Akron, where they bought a farm two and a half miles south of that town, where they farmed for many years and then went to Akron to make their home. Mr. Pendleton died in December, 1920.
Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton enjoyed fifty-five years of married life, celebrating their golden wedding in 1915.
Mrs. Pendleton is survived by her children, who are Mrs. Jos. Smith of Le Mars; Mrs. Leon Odgen, Edward, Jesse and William of Akron.
Three children preceded their mother in death.
There are twenty grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Akron, all the children being present. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.
Mrs. Pendleton was a devoted wife and mother and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her.
