DEATH SUMMONS ESTEEMED AKRON PIONEER WOMAN

Last Rites for Mrs. Emma E. Jordin Held Last Friday Afternoon

Mrs. Emma E. Jordin, a resident of this vicinity for over fifty years, passed away in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Grabarski, east of town, Wednesday, May 5, 1937, after a brief illness, aged 80 years, 9 months, and 28 days.

Mrs. Jordin was born in Mercer county, Ohio, July 17, 1856, where she grew to young womanhood. On February 18, 1883, she was united in marriage with Henry V. Jordin, of Mercer county, Ohio. The same year Mr. and Mrs. Jordin came west and located in Union county S. d., west of Akron, where they resided until 1900, when they retired from farming and moved to Akron, which has since remained the family home, except for a brief residence in Sioux City.

Mrs. Jordin was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Eva Smiley.

She leaves to mourn her departure three sons and two daughters, John L. Jordin, of LeMars, Ia.; L. G. Jordin, of Walbridge, Ohio; George W. Jordin, of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Mrs. Emily Grabarski and Mrs. Viva Pendleton, of Akron; also by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

They have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Mrs. Jordin was a woman of fine character and pleasant ways, a kind and devoted wife and mother and a helpful and valued friend and neighbor, who will be greatly missed in the community in which she has lived so many years. Early in life she became a member of the Methodist church, in which faith she remained until 1900, when she united with the Church of Christian church in Akron, of which she was a faithful member to the end, although unable to attend its services much the past few years on account of her failing health.

Funeral services were held in the Church of Christ here last Friday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. B. Zand. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
