MRS. JOHN ERICSON WAS PIONEER OF GRANT TOWNSHIP
CAME HERE IN THE LATER SEVENTIES
̅
Mrs. John Ericson, a pioneer resident of Grant township, died at 1:30 Sunday afternoon after a lingering illness due largely to old age.
Mary Davidson was born in Tranemo, West Jutland, Sweden, November 28th, 1841, and would have been 81 years old had she lived a few weeks longer. She grew to womanhood in her native country and in 1876 came to the United States and was married in Sioux City to John Ericson, who had been reared in the same village in Sweden and had a few years previous came to this country and homesteaded the farm in Grant on which he still lives. On this farm Mrs. Ericson spent her married life, reared her family and saw the pioneer community in which had settled develop in to one the richest farming sections of the country. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ericson, Mrs. Chas. Rowe and Miss Clara Ericson, both of whom live in the community where they were born. A brother Eric Davidson, who live in the Ericson home, also survives. Mrs. Ericson was blessed with unusual health and vigor until about four years ago when she lost her eye sight. While her general health has failed rapidly after she was first stricken, Mrs. Ericson was ever patient and uncomplaining and met the illness of her later years with the same courageous, cheerful spirit that helped the pioneers through the hardships of early days in this section. She will be missed and mourned by many of the older residents who knew her as a good woman devoted to her home and family.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1 o’clock at the house and at 2 at Crathorne church. Rev. C. G. Butler, of Oskaloosa, a former pastor, will con¬duct the services and will be assisted by Rev. Frolkey, pastor of Crathorne church. Interment will be made in Crathorne cemetery.~[Editor Note: The correct spelling should be Erickson.]
