JOHN F. HILLRICHS DIES FOLLOWING A HEART ATTACK

Rites Held Last Week For Lifelong Resident Of Plymouth County

Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the sudden and unexpected death of John F. Hillrichs of a heart attack during his sleep at his farm home about three miles east of Craig, Friday morning December 12, aged 59 years, 6 months and 12 days.

John Folkert Hillrichs, son of Henry and Mona (nee Schmidt) Hillrichs, was born May 31, 1899, at their home east of Akron, and has spent his life time in Plymouth county. On February 21, 1929, he was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Nannen at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nannen, of Preston township, Rev. Theo. Meyer officiating. One daughter, Darlene Henrietta, came to bless their union. After their marriage they began farming five miles east of Akron in the spring of 1930 they moved to their present place, three miles east of Craig, and have resided there since.

Mr. Hillrichs leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Darlene; four brothers, Henry, of Craig; ; Fred, Ben and Harry, all of Akron vicinity, and three sisters, Mrs. AANNA Barinsky, of Akron; Mrs. Emma Andresen, of Hawarden, and Mrs. Mina Peters, of Akron; also by other relatives and by a host of friends who extend sympathy to the sorrowing family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Reinhard and Edwin.

On March 16, 1913, he was confirmed in St. John’s American Lutheran church, Preston township. He became very active in the affairs of his church. For many years he sang in the church choir and quartet. A charter member of the Brotherhood, he served as its first secretary, was a member of the church council, and was a member of the township board of trustees at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, following a brief service at the home, in St. John’s Lutheran church, Preston township, Rev. Henry J. Dirks officiating. A quartet sang, “Have Thine Own Way,” “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Under His Wings.” Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Raymond and Lowell Barinsky, Lowell, Marlin and Robert Hillrichs and Darrell Peters. Interment was in the church cemetery.
