Mrs. John (Mina) Peters
Mrs. John D. (Mina) Peters, 82, of Akron, lifelong Plymouth county resident, died unexpectedly Monday (May 4, 1987) at her home.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. The Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Richard Hillrichs, vocalist, sang “Nearer My God To Thee” and “Softly and Tenderly”, accompanied by Carol Harris, organist. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today with the family present from 7-8 p.m. in Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Hillrichs, Kenneth Hillrichs, Robert Hillrichs, Lowell Barinsky, Norman Heeren, and Matthew Klemme.
Active pallbearers were Randall Peters, Robert Peters, Todd Finzen, Joel Easton, Bruce Small and Leslie Lorensen.
Mrs. Peters, the former Mina H. Hillrichs, was born Nov. 14, 1904, to Henry and Mina Schmidt Hillrichs. She attended rural school in Preston township. She was baptized Dec. 11, 1904, and confirmed March 4, 1918 into the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church, Preston township, rural Akron.
She married John D. Peters May 10, 1925, in rural Akron. The couple farmed in the Akron area until 1936 when they moved to Akron. Mr. Peters operated the Peters Garage and was a carpenter in Akron for many years until his death 1962.
Mrs. Peters was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, and the LCW for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Harvey of Hawarden and Darrell of Sioux City; one daughter, Mrs. Arvin (Dorothy) Finzen of Akron; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven brothers; Reinhardt, Henry J., Jr.; John, Fred, Ben, Harry and Eddie; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Barinsky and Mrs. Emma Andresen.
