December 27, 1956 - August 10, 2017

Douglas Blackmore, 60, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Bert Burwell, A.i.M., from St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill with military honors provided by the Oleson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 of Merrill. Visitation with the family present will after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Douglas Lee Blackmore was born December 27, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Orville and Viola (Bennett) Blackmore. He attended grade school in Merrill and later high school in Le Mars, where he graduated from Le Mars Community High School. Following high school, he attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City where he studied finance.

He entered in the United States Army in March of 1980. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO for two years. He served for two years in Germany until his honorable discharge in March of 1984. Following his discharge, he moved to Le Mars. He worked at The Redemption Center in Le Mars.

He was a member of the Oleson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 of Merrill. He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching sports on television.

He is survived by his parents, Orville and Viola Blackmore of Merrill; his sister: Debra (Kenneth) Daugherty of Sioux City, IA; a brother in law: Rick Kinzie of Sioux City, IA; five nephews: Chris, Nick, Brad, and Brian Daugherty, and Chad Blackmore; and several aunts, uncles, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Blackmore; his sister: Cheryl Blackmore Kinzie; his paternal grandparents: Walter and Hedvig Blackmore; and his maternal grandparents: Louis and Violet Bennett.
