In Memory of John J. Emge 1937 - 2017
John J. Emge, 79, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Father Brad Pelzel and Father Thomas Topf will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salix, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 29, 2017 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. There will be a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will also be an hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Wednesday.
John J. Emge was born on November 6, 1937 in Salix, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Vivian (Terrell) Emge. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Salix, Iowa in 1957.
On September 2, 1957 John & Betty (Ullrich) were united in marriage at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Salix. The couple made their home in Loveland, Colorado. John worked for 30 years as a national and international tire analyst and salesman for TOYO Tire. John & Betty returned to the area in 2004 and settled in Kingsley.
John was currently a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley. He enjoyed raising world champion Paint Horses while in Colorado. He was an Elks member for over 50 years. John loved his family and spending time at the farm in Oto and yard work at his home.
He will be lovingly remembered by a daughter, Twila Gavin and her husband John of San Antonio, TX; a son, Marty Emge and his wife Robbie of Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Therese Hall and husband Jeff of San Antonio, TX, Korrie Denning and her husband Andy of Parker, CO and Kyle Emge of Parker, CO; 2 great-granddaughters; Max & Remi Denning,; sister; Shana Emge of Whiting, IA, sister-in-law; Julie Emge of South Sioux City, NE; caregiver and friend; Sister Janet Kreber, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, brother; Richard and infant brother; Bobby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Salix.
