One of Akron’s widely known and revered pioneer women, Mrs. Kidd Allen, passed to her final reward Tuesday night, January 3, at the Akron nursing home, after a brief illness aged 83 years, 6 months and 18 days.

Emma Nettie, daughter of Wm. R. and Eliza Howes Kidd, early day residents here was born June 20, 1883, in Akron, ad lived here her entire lifetime. She was a registered hospital nurse and taught rural schools in both Iowa and South Dakota.

On February 9, 1921, she was united in marriage with Ernest L. Allen. Their only son, Byron, was killed during World War II, in 1944, in England. She was preceded in death by Mr. Allen, on January 7, 1954.

Three grandchildren by a former marriage, Mrs. Yonne Isaacs, of North Bend, Ore.; Terry J. Reilly, of Norfolk, Va.; and Conrad K. Reilly, of Akak, Alaska survive.

Mrs. Allen had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Akron for sixty-nine years, being a faithful worker in the church circles and Sunday school. She was a Vesper Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for more than fifty years also belonging to the White Shrine, to the American Legion Auxillary and the Gold Star Mothers.

Besides her parents and other relatives above mentioned she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Johnson and Mrs. Anne Barnes.

The many friends gained by Mrs. Allen during her long residence in this community through her kind and pleasant personality will long hold her in cherished memory.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Pastor Clarence Laott, of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Mrs. Hugh Swift was vocalist and Mrs. Janice Stoeckman was pianist.

Casket bearers were Gordon Kilsrom, Avery Small, Harley Lewisson, Floyd Davis and Arvel Lake. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery.
