Ray E. Allen

Ray E. Allen, 86, of Alcester died Thursday, July 14, 1994, at the Hawarden Hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held Saturday morning at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with Rev. Donald Greenough officiating. Melody Jeffers, soloist sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art,” accompanied by Marlin Jeffers, pianist.

Pallbearers were Rory Gray, Shane Gray, Bob Gray, Marlin Jeffers, Jody Frye, Merlin Jeffers, Jamie Frye and Payne Allen. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen was born Feb. 9, 1908, in Elk Point, the son of George and Maude (Peck) Allen. He married Fern Rosenbaum May 22, 1937. She died in December 1984. He farmed all his life except for 13 years when he worked at Missouri Valley Steel in Sioux City.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Gray of Hawarden; Charlene Barrett of Chatsworth; and Beverly Jeffers of Sioux City a son, Larry Leroy Allen of Hudson; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Kemp of Lincoln, Neb., Marie Manioki of Chicago; Leone Dixon of Moville; and Rose Carter of Akron, and a brother Clifford of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard; a grandson, Michael Jeffers; two sisters, Helen Huisman and Opal Trobaugh, and a brother, Orin.
