George Ahrens

ALCESTER, S.D. – George Ahrens, 71, died Monday at the Akron, Iowa hospital.

He was born in Plymouth County, Iowa, and married Helen Wynia Oct. 17, 1934. They farmed in Plymouth County until 1944, and later moved to Chatsworth, Iowa. In 1951 they moved to Union County and farmed there until moving into Alcester in 1978. Mrs. Ahrens died in 1967.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin, Rochester, N.Y.; Robert, Alcester; three daughters, Mrs. Ronald Pedersen, Le Mars, Iowa; Mrs. Gordon Schoellerman, Alcester; Mrs. Craig Rosenbuum, Elk Point, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Siebels, Barnston, Neb.; Mrs. Irene Sullivan, Maggie Ahrens, both of Elk Point, S.D.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, Alcester, with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Wass Funeral Home of Alcester is handling arrangements.

George W. Ahrens, 71, died December 3, at an Alcester nursing home. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester with the Rev. Neal Ahart officiating. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery, Akron, with the Wass Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Ahrens was born August 10, 1908 in Plymouth County, Akron, to William and Bertha (Schipper) Ahrens. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church at Akron and was presently a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Alcester.

He married Helen Wynia at Yankton, SD on October 17, 1934. The couple resided on a farm in Plymouth County until 1944 when they moved to Chatsworth. In 1951 they moved to a farm in Union Co.

Mrs. Ahrens passed away and Mr. Ahrens continued to farm until moving to Alcester in 1978 at which time he entered Morningside Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by one brother and 2 sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin of Rochester, NY, and Robert of Alcester; three daughters, Betty (Mrs. Ronald Pedersen) of LeMars, Donna (Mrs. Gordon Schoellerman) of Alcester, and Linda (Mrs. Craig Rosenbaum) of Elk Point; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Siebels of Barnston, Neb., Maggie Ahrens and Mrs. Irene Sullivan, both of Elk Point; and 12 grandchildren.
