CRAIG, Iowa -- John H. Moller, 93, of Craig passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, with his family at his side.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Craig, with the Rev. Barbara Hansen officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post 724 of Brunsville, Iowa, will be in the St. John's Evangelical Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today with the family present 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. John Henry Moller was born June 4, 1915 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, to John G. Moller Sr. and Johanna (Nielson) Moller. John was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran. John attended country school near his home. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was assigned as the Officer's Barber on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania, a sister-ship to the U.S.S. Arizona. After his discharge from the Navy in November of 1945, John returned to Iowa and was united in marriage to Lillian J. Kleihauer on May 16, 1946 at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township. John and Lillian are the proud parents of four children: Roger, Glenn, David, and JoAnn. John and Lillian farmed in the Craig and Akron area until their retirement in 1980 when they moved to Craig.
John enjoyed attending auctions, playing cards, going fishing, hunting pheasants, and listening to polka music. He was very proud to be a veteran. He was a member of the Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post 724 of Brunsville. He and Lillian had been active with the former St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at Chatsworth, Iowa, and later active with St. John Lutheran in Craig. He had served the church as a Deacon and Trustee for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lillian of Craig; four children, Roger and Susan Moller, Glenn Moller, David and Susan Moller, all of Craig, and JoAnn Moller-Loucks of Janesville, Wis.; grandsons, Todd Moller, Travis Moller, David Loucks Jr., and Justin Loucks; two great-grandchildren, Parker David Loucks and Laney Loucks; a brother, Robert and Velma Moller of Hawarden, Iowa; a sister, Ann Anderson of Sioux City; several in-laws, Matie Ruble and Emma Harms, both of Le Mars, Otto and Jeanine Kliehauer of Brunsville, Iowa, Albert and Mildred Kliehauer of Cherokee, Iowa, and Cecilia Moller of Chatsworth; and several nieces and nephews.
John was proceeded in death by his parents, John G. Moller Sr. and Johanna (Nielson) Moller; thee brothers, Richard, Henry, and Gerhart Moller; and a son-in-law, David Loucks.
Pallbearers will be Gary Moller Jr., Randall Moller, Doug Anderson, Mark Kleihauer, Leonard Beitelspacher, and Dennis Harms.
