Linda Kay Arens, 61, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at her home in Le Mars, after spending some of the best days and months of her life enjoying time with her parents, siblings, children and grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Jon Meredith of the First Baptist Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Linda Kay Petersen was born on August 7, 1955 in Vermillion, South Dakota to James and Millie (Hughes) Petersen. In 1969 she gained her step father Doug Brown She attended school in Vermillion. Linda was united in marriage to Gordon ‘Gordy’ Arens on April 19, 1972 in Vermillion. They lived in Vermillion for a short time before moving to an acreage near Akron, Iowa. Linda tendered bar in Akron for over 20 years while also helping Gordy on the farm and raising their 2 children. Gordy passed away on August 7, 2004. Later, she worked for Wells Dairy and then went to Wal-Mart in Vermillion. She began working as a CNA at Good Samaritan in Le Mars in 2013 and in 2015, she moved to Le Mars. She retired in May of 2016 due to her health.

She enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, camping and fishing with her mom and Doug, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her son, Jamie Arens (special friend, Sonja Radican) of Chatsworth, Iowa; daughter, Tammy (Don) Allaway of Le Mars; stepdaughter, Kimberly Capers of Sioux City, Iowa; her mother : Millie and Stepfather Doug Brown of Vermillion, SD; siblings: Rick (Betsy) Petersen of Hartford, South Dakota, Sue (Al) Richardson of Vermillion, Lisa Johnson of Vermillion, Steve (Pete) Petersen of Vermillion, Denny Petersen (special friend, Joanne Bishop) of Sioux City, Vikki (Jack) Bridgford of Le Mars, Cindy (Gary) Herman of Le Mars, Jim Arens of Springfield, Missouri, Joe Arens of Le Mars, Greg (Cindy) Arens of Chatsworth, Sheila (Bob) Kramer of Willard, MO, Marc (Barb) Arens of Le Mars, IA; her grandchildren: Shawn Arens, Marissa (Michael) Nelson, Tyler Scholtman, Donny Allaway, Daniel Arens, Michaela Arens, Justin Allaway, Chloe Arens, and Noah Arens; and many nieces and nephews and her special “Noodle”, Makynlee Jo Dean.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Petersen; her husband: Gordy Arens; her brother: James Petersen; her maternal and paternal grandparents; and two nephews: Shane Herman and Dougie Richardson.
