JEFFERSON, S.D. -- James Robert Niven, 76, of Jefferson died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home in Elk Point, S.D., with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Niven was born May 10, 1929, in Bronson, Iowa, the son of Joseph R. and Frances (Flanders) Niven. He attended schools in Le Mars, Iowa.

He married Wilma Joseph on Sept. 25, 1947, in Le Mars, Iowa. He had lived in Jefferson from 1955 to present. He started operating his own gravel business in 1960.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. He loved to restore tractors and had a toy tractor collection.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Nancy (Keith) Roth of Whittemore, Iowa; a son, Robert of Jefferson; a brother-in-law, Bill (Kathy) Joseph of Alcester, S.D.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four nieces; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Niven; a son, Ronald Niven; and a brother, John Niven.
