Curt Lewison, 87, of Akron, Iowa passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at his home in Akron.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial with military rites conducted by the United States Naval Reserves and the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Curtis Lester Lewison, Jr. was born October 22, 1924 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Curtis, Sr. and Verna (Bennett) Lewison. He attended Hoyt country school in Union County, South Dakota and later high school in Akron. He graduated from Akron High School in January of 1943. During his high school years, he began working for Nelson Hatchery in Akron.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1943. He served his country during WWII. He attained the rank of RM2C. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Akron and continued to work for Nelson Hatchery.

He was united in marriage to May Lou McKee on June 11, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden, Iowa. They made their home in Akron. Curt continued to work for the hatchery and later became manager of the feed mill operations. On March 1, 1991 he retired from the feed mill. Following his retirement, Curt started a painting business in Akron.

Curt was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, having served on church council and past treasurer. He and May Lou were one of the founding couples of the YoMaCo's. Curt served for many years as a trustee for the Akron Care Center and a board member for the Akron Opera House. He was also a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Through the years, Curt enjoyed bowling, camping, and fishing. But most of all, he loved the times spent with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of over 64 years, May Lou of Akron; his children: Marc Lewison (Robin) of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin Lewison (Debbie) of Akron, IA, and Debra Lewison of Akron, IA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; his sister: Betty Heyl of Akron, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Richard and Harold; and a sister: Dorothy Olsen.
