September 21, 1931 - August 19, 2016

Mildred J. “Millie” Lawrence, 84 of Sioux City passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron.

Millie was born September 21, 1931, near Elk Point, SD to Fred and Margaret (Jans) Onnen. She grew up in the Akron area and attended school in Akron, IA.

Millie married Leonard Lawrence on June 26, 1948 in Elk Point. Leonard passed away on October 6, 1985.

After the marriage, they moved to Wichita, KS and Millie lived in Wichita for 38 years. She retired from Riverside Hospital in 1996 where she worked for 21 years.

Millie was a member of the Cedar Chapel Methodist Church in Wichita. She was active in the P.T.A., she had a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout Troop. Millie enjoyed sewing and doing crafts.

After retiring, she moved back to Salix, IA. Millie worked at Mercy Home Care in Sioux City for nine years. She then worked for the Senior Companion Program retiring on April 1, 2015.

Millie is survived by one son, Terry Lawrence and wife Sadie of Hutchinson, KS; 2 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; one sister, Stella McConahie of Montague, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; one brother, Walt Onnen; and three sisters: Betty Kluender, Delores Dreeszen and Norma Miller.
