WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Ruby C. Stevens, 93 years and 11 months, of Westfield died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at a Sioux City nursing home.

The body was cremated. Private family services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mrs. Stevens was born April 6, 1912, near Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Artamus W. Kellogg and Annie (Newman) Kellogg. She attended country school and graduated from Liberty School in Merrill.

She married Chester L. Warren in 1936. He died in 1955. She married Lester V. Stevens in 1956. He died in April 2005. She had worked at J.C. Penney's in Sioux City and in the dietary department at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center. In her early years, she was "Ruby the Riveter" in California, working for the Civil Defense.

She enjoyed the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to sew and bake. In retirement years, she enjoyed painting figurines and knickknacks and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a stepdaughter and her husband, Wilma and Arnold Hummel of Akron, Iowa; three grandchildren and their spouses, Veronica and Bill Porter of Harrison, Neb., Richard and Linda Hummel of Dodge City, Kan., and Alan and Pam Hummel of Indianola, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a sister, Doris; two brothers, Clifford and Raymond; and a great-grandson.
