Wayne C. Horton, 90, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

His Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Rejoice Community Church in Le Mars with Pastor Tony De La Rosa officiating. Family inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Wayne Cleo Horton was born July 25, 1922 in Bronson, Iowa to Walter and Helen (Moise) Horton. In 1935, the family moved to a farm near Akron, Iowa. He graduated from Akron High School in 1940. Following high school, Wayne farmed with his father. On June 22, 1946, Wayne was united in marriage to Virginia Bemiss. Wayne and Virginia were blessed with seven children: Sally, Sue, Sharon, Steve, Sandy, Shelly, and Sona. In 1953, the family moved to San Francisco, California briefly before returning to farm near Akron. Wayne and Virginia farmed and raised purebred Angus cattle for many years. He had showed cattle at the Denver Stock Show and received numerous awards for his cattle through the years. Along with farming, Wayne operated a "over-the road" trucking business and local trucking hauling livestock and gravel. Virginia passed away on September 20, 1987. Wayne continued to actively farm into his 80''s. On December 28, 1991, Wayne married Betty Jensen. For the last 20 years, Wayne and Betty made their home in Le Mars. Wayne enjoyed his life as a farmer and cattleman. He also had a passion for buying and selling vehicles. He had estimated that he had owned over 250 cars and trucks through the years. He loved the thrill of negotiating. He also enjoyed attending college basketball and footballs games in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Betty of Le Mars; 7 children: Sally (Jim) Freking of Le Mars, Sue (Butch) Weyer of Hawarden, Sharon (Edgar) Uhl of Bonita Springs, FL, Steve (Marilyn) Horton of Sioux City, Sandy Horton of Sioux City, Shelly (Bob) Buys of Council Bluffs, and Sona (Troy) Seaton of Centennial, CO; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; a brother, Cecil (Corriene) Horton of Akron; a sister, Dorothy (Ole) Olaf of Bettendorf, IA; a sister-in-law, Fern Horton of Pipestone, MN; 2 step-children: Jody Hobbs of Apple Valley, MN and Mike (Frances) Jensen of Dallas, Texas; 7 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Helen (Moies) Horton; his wife Virginia; a grandson Jamie; 3 brothers: Art, Clarence (Arlene) and Glen Horton; and a step-daughter, Pamela Schiltz.
