Violet M. Hendricks

AKRON, Iowa -- Violet M. Hendricks, 86, of Akron, formerly of Hawarden and Chatsworth, Iowa, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Violet M. Hendricks was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Union County, S.D., the daughter of Jake and Bessie (Transoe) Mangelsen. She attended school in Union County, Glenwood, Minn., and later in Plymouth County, Iowa.

Violet married Albert Moehlmann on March 18, 1940. They lived in Chatsworth, Iowa, and then farmed near Westfield, Iowa.They returned to Chatsworth in 1950 and started a trucking business, where Violet drove for 25 years. Albert died in 1974, and she sold the business in October of 1976. She married E.F. Hendricks in 1977, and they farmed until his death in March of 1994. Violet then made her home in Hawarden.

She volunteered driving for others and enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing bingo and helping friends and family. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, and the Martha Circle. She had served on the Chatsworth City Council for eight years.

Survivors include her son, Gary "Butch" Moehlmann and wife, Linda of Princeton, Minn.; daughter, Carol Lynch and husband, Randy of Quinn, S.D.; two brothers, Elmer Mangelsen of Westfield, Iowa, and Calvin Mangelsen and wife, Janette of Yankton, S.D.; three sisters, Helen Neth of Klamath Falls, Ore., Shirley Ramhorst and husband, Darrel of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Darlene McPherson and husband, Bruce of Hawarden; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Moehlmann and Edith Packard, both of Hawarden; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; special niece, Lois Solbue and husband, Loren of Alcester, S.D.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a daughter, Betty Ann; and a brother, Johnny.
