OLIVET — Flynn J. Heer, age 66 of Olivet, S.D. died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, S.D..
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 30th, 2012 at Salem Reformed Church, Menno, S.D. with Rev. Michael Hecht officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Akron, IA, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 29th, 2012 at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, S.D.. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Charles Zeeb, Edward Sayler, Terry Hessman, Marvin Spomer, Roger Zweifel, and Howard Goehring. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tony Bello, Larry Jacobs, John R. Anderson, Dr. James Nyberg, Robert Rolof, Howard Knodel, Wayne Mathias, Roger Hutchinson, Thomas Hertz, Jim Herr, and Steve Wagner.
Flynn was born on June 21, 1946 in Scotland, S.D. to Leonard and Wilma (Walker) Heer. He was confirmed in the Christian faith on December 25, 1960 in the Olivet Evangelical United Brethren Church and graduated from Menno High School in 1964. After graduating from Southern State College in Springfield, S.D. and attending the Engineering School of Mines in Rapid City, Flynn chose to return to the farm and assisted his parents in successfully expanding and managing the farm operation. He married Andrea Jo Wohlenberg on November 30, 2001 in Menno, S.D..
Flynn had an unending myriad of mechanical and electrical interests and skills varying from complete restoration of Corvettes to designing and building farm innovations, ranging from an automated hog feeding system to a condominium for farm cats. Beginning with the design, building, and flying of model airplanes, Flynn’s aviation interests evolved to his acquiring a pilot’s license and spending hours, days, and weeks, flying his own planes, videotaping both local and long distance flights.
Flynn is survived by his wife, Jo, of Olivet, S.D., his mother-in-law, Mary F. Wohlenberg of Yankton, S.D., two sisters-in-law: Mary G. Pennino of Daytona Beach, FL and Nancy K. LaBuff of Missoula, MT, his sister, Lanette Muchmore of Parkston, S.D., his aunt, Elsie Heer Schmid of Spokane Valley, WA, three nephews, two nieces, two grand nieces, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
Flynn was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Len LaBuff.
