Helen M. Blake, 85, of Akron, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Steve Jewett of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron, Iowa will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen Marie Blake was born July 14, 1925 in Dixon County, Nebraska, the daughter of Clinton and Anna (Christopherson) Chase. She attended school in Allen, Nebraska. Following her schooling, she helped area homemakers on the farm. She was united in marriage to Dan Blake on March 14, 1946 in Dakota City, Nebraska. They made their home in Wayne, Nebraska until 1957, when they moved to Akron, Iowa. Helen was a homemaker for her family. In her later years, Helen provided day care for many children, provided care for the elderly, and did housekeeping work. Helen was a member of the former First Church of Christ in Akron for many years. Helen loved to listen music, especially Tennessee Ernie Ford. She also enjoyed reading, doing ceramic work, and flower gardening. She also enjoyed watching birds and playing with pets. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of over 64 years, Dan of Akron, IA; her 3 children: Kathy (Paul) Bringman of Deming, NM, Orin (Connie) Blake of Akron, IA, and Pat Haage of Akron, IA; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother: Bill (Arlene) Chase of Allen, NE; a sister: Wilma Papalia of Rochester, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Vernon Chase and Ben Chase; and 2 sisters: Goldie Franks and Veva Lennox.
