Mona Mamie Rozell was born January 9, 1920 on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Mamie (Tucker) Rozell. She attended Breezy Hill country school in Plymouth County. She was united in marriage to Robert F. Smith on February 26, 1941 in Akron. They farmed in Plymouth County and Sioux County for many years. In 1978, they moved into Akron. After moving to Akron, Mona worked for 12 years at the Akron Care Center. Robert passed away February 27, 1980. In March of 2009, Mona became a resident of the Akron Care Center. The family is grateful for all the care that she received while living at the care center. Mona was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Through the years, she enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, and cooking. Everyone was welcome in her home. One day a veterinarian was in the neighborhood, but had not been called to the Smith''s place. The vet drove in hungry, knowing he would be able to join Bob and Mona at lunchtime, uninvited but welcome. The coffee was always ready and she insisted you have a bite before leaving. Many friends and family enjoyed her delicious fried chicken and angel food cake with a beautiful bouquet of gladiolas on her table. During later years in her home, coffee and cookies were ready for whoever stopped to visit. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter: Marilyn Quilleash of Sioux City, IA; two grandsons: Bob (Gale) Quilleash of Peoria, IL, and David Quilleash of Minneapolis, MN; 2 great grandchildren: Jessica Shepherd and Addison Quilleash; a sister in law: Dolores Rozell of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her daughter: JoAnn Smith; her son in law: Albert "Red" Quilleash; her brothers: Arthur, Arden, Arvil, Alva, Archie, and Arlo; and her sisters: Mabel Willer, Mae Neunaber, Mary Moss, Marie Smith, Merva Hartman, and Muriel Krueger.

The family would like to thank Michele Wiggs and Marjorie Willer for their constant love and support for Mona.
