AKRON, Iowa - William J. "Buzz" Henke, 75, of Akron died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mr. Henke was born Oct. 1, 1922, the son of John and Mayme (Talbott) Henke, in Union County, S.D. He attended the Sayles country school and high school in Elk Point, S.D. He married Lois Marie Weidenfeller on Oct. 25, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. He worked for the creamery in Akron, trucked for Ray Jesperson and Don Caskey, and had been a street superintendent for the City of Akron for 18 years. He was an 18 year member of the Akron Fire Department, former board member of the Akron Men's Bowling Association, and former member of the Akron Golf Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, trapping and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Bill and Linda of Chatsworth, Iowa, and Leonard and Connie of Akron; a daughter, Elizabeth Gallentine of Omaha, Neb; three grandchildren, Chad Graves, Danny Henke and Melisa Gallentine; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Marion of Elk Point, S.D.; a sister, Margaret Eden of Puyallup, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Merlin, Kenneth, and Les.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Lennon, Lee Harris, Bob Popken, Stan Rolfes, Ed Williams, Bob Bouwman, and Rich Henke.
