AKRON, Iowa - Viggo E. Henriksen, 76, of Akron died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Hoshler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Henriksen was born April 8, 1921, near Freeman, S.D., the son of Marinus and Katrina (Sorenson) Henriksen. He farmed with his father, until enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II as an aviation ordnanceman second class until 1945.
He married Myrtle Helen Gran on April 10, 1947, in Irene, S.D. They farmed in the Viborg and Yankton, S.D. area until 1957, when they purchased the Frozen Foods Center in Akron.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, Akron Lions Club, Hoshler American Legion Post 186, past president of Akron Commerical Club and held a city council seat.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Richard of Elk Point, S.D. and Gary Wayne of Rohnert Park, Calif.; a daughter and her husband, Kathy Jo and Bill Peterson of Yakima, Wash.; six grandchildren; and two brothers and their wives, Harold and Sadie of Albany, Ga. and William and Gloria of Vermillion, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Johnny; and an infant sister, Emma Katrina.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Maynard, Harold Moffatt, Don Heyl, Eric Hedeby, Charlie Boetger, Ted Willer, Ray Herren, Leonard Klemme, and Bill Peterson.
